Elizabeth Bishop’s free verse poem “The Fish” is about a transformation in the idea of the speaker who was initially very expressing normal feelings of a fisherwoman. It was after the 65th line that the change in her tone became even more prominent. The realization that came became the moment of epiphany after which she finally let the fish go. From the description of the minute details of the appearance of the fish it can be understood that the fish had earlier endured many battles that are apparent from the scars on its body.
